Put It Down Where the Goats Can Get It

When I was growing up, my mom had a phrase she used often: “Put it down there where the goats can get it.” As a visual learner, I pictured goats eating at ground level — simple, reachable, nothing too high or complicated. I didn’t know that phrase would become a guiding principle in my spiritual life.

I’ve been a Christian since I was a little girl, but I didn’t always understand the Bible. I admired women who prayed boldly, quoted scripture effortlessly, and seemed to have a direct line to heaven. Meanwhile, I felt like I was reading a history book full of names and places I couldn’t connect to my everyday life.

But God is patient. Through prayer, studying, and using devotionals alongside my Bible, something shifted. I began to see Him not just in the “big” moments, but in the ordinary ones — my thoughts, my routines, my emotions, my decisions. Journaling became my meeting place with Him, the way I slowed down enough to hear and respond.

As I grew, I realized many people struggled the same way I once did. They loved God but didn’t always know how to apply His Word. A few years ago, God gave me the courage to start sending morning devotionals to friends and family. Those small seeds eventually grew into From My Heart to Yours: A Journey of God’s Grace.

My approach is simple:

- use everyday life to reveal God’s presence

- invite short, honest, heart-level prayers

- gently challenge readers to reflect and write

My prayer is that I’ve “put it down where the goats can get it” — not watered down, but reachable, relatable, and rooted in grace. And above all, that God is glorified.

If this message speaks to you and you’d like to continue growing in your walk, I share more reflections, stories, and journaling prompts on my blog. And if you’re looking for a devotional companion for your quiet time, From My Heart to Yours: A Journey of God’s Grace was written with women just like us in mind — women who want to see God in the everyday and draw closer to Him with honesty and simplicity.
