When Growing Requires Pruning

With just a few days left in March, we’re already getting our minds ready for grow season. Growing peppers is a lot of work, but it’s also relaxing and incredibly rewarding. There’s something special about watching pots that start out as nothing but dirt slowly turn into bright, colorful peppers — peppers that eventually become the foundation of our family’s Heavenly Harvest Elite Heat Hot Sauce.

The sauce is amazing. If you haven’t tasted it, you should. But what I really want to highlight is the process before the sauce ever reaches a bottle. It takes watering. It takes light. It takes pruning. It takes patience and consistency to see the fruit we’re hoping for.

And honestly, that’s exactly how our journey as believers works. A seed is planted. God, the Master Gardener, waters it. And when needed, He prunes us — not to harm us, but so we can grow, mature, and produce fruit that brings Him glory. I’m not trying to preach; I just love how God uses practical, everyday things to minister to our hearts and minds.

One verse that stays with me during grow season is this:

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener… He prunes every branch that produces fruit so that it will produce more fruit.”

— John 15:1–2 CSB

That same practical mindset is what encouraged me to write From My Heart to Yours: A Journey of God’s Grace. If you’re looking for a simple way to connect with God’s Word — and a space to capture what He reveals to you — meet me on the blog and grab your own copy today.

Reflection Question

What is one way that God might be pruning you in this season?

Take a moment to sit with that. Sometimes the pruning feels uncomfortable, but it’s always purposeful.

Prayer

God, thank You for the reminder that apart from You we can do nothing. Lord, help me to be patient as You water the seeds in my life that have been planted and for the pruning that is necessary for me to keep growing and produce fruit that glorifies You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
