YOU GET WHAT YOU GET AND YOU DON'T THROW A FIT

This message from my book has been stirring in my spirit again lately — especially as I watch how comparison creeps into our daily lives…

It is human instinct to spot when things are different.

In order to identify something is different we have to compare it to something else. Let's be honest, accepting the concept of dissimilarity can be tough. In fact early learning educators often teach students that

“You get what you get and you don't throw a fit! ” I think that our Heavenly Father shares that perspective. Like the students this remedial perspective helps to build character.

We live in a world where we are constantly comparing, and I don't mean comparing costs to save money, which is wise. We compare our looks, talents, wealth, and social status. After we compare we subsequently use our carnal thinking to make judgments on who or what we deem to be “better.”

News Flash! We serve a perfect and intentional God.

We are created in His image. This means that we should be grateful for how God decided to mentally and physically create us. Moreover, each talent, our wealth and health regardless of social status belongs to God first. It is an honor that He trusts us to steward all that he has blessed us with.

God's word says that he equips us with everything that we need to do his will. Therefore we can conclude that it is not fruitful to play the game of comparison. We lose from the very beginning because our point of reference is not aligned with his original design.

Let’s stop measuring what He gave others.

Let’s start stewarding what He gave us.

You get what you get — and God doesn’t make mistakes.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank you for being my perfect creator. Your word is clear that I am a unique creation. Please show me how best to steward the gifts and purpose that you have in store just for me; and help me to avoid the dark trap of comparing. Thank you that I am complete, whole, and lack nothing when I abide in you. In Jesus name Amen!

Power Verse

Hebrews 13:21 NLT

May he equip you with all you need for doing his will. May he produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to him. All glory to him forever and ever!
